In Paonia we began constructing a two-story, load-bearing straw bale home, designed with Enzo and featuring naturally-built features such as adobe floors, interior and exterior lime plaster finishes, southern orientation, etc.
The house, seen as a whole, is thus healthy-not only because of the ecological and non-toxic materials used, but also because of the symmetry, the geometric windows that direct the passage of light and air, and the intentional creation of rhythmic patterns in the finishes. The symmetry of the home offers a feeling of comfort and balance as it mirrors our own physiological symmetry and emphasizes the central axis from which both sides find balanced proportions.
